Clutch Hydraulic Diagram

Clutch diagram

The clutch mechanism enables the drum of the  winches to rotate freely. Is a device comprises a cylinder that trigger a fork that connect and disconnect a driving unit usually a drum shaft.

Function of clutch system

This clutch mechanism allows the operator to enabling the drum to rotate freely. The free spooling clutch is actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. For actuating the hydraulic cylinder, the winch is equipped with an electric driven HPU. This electric driven HPU  is controlled by an electric valve (24VDC) from the control room.

Disengagement of the winch drum

The mooring winch motors can be de-clutched from the winch drive by a hydraulic operated clutch. This is possible when the winch is at standstill with the band brake applied. Before de-clutching the motor torque will be reduced near to zero.

Engagement of the winch drum

Before the clutch can be engaged, the motor side of the clutch is align with the drum side of the clutch.
