Nowadays I revise my old article, service report and I remember my experiences on board commercial or offshore vessels as hydraulic troubleshooter

In order to check the function of a hydraulic machine we need a diagram. Consequently there are various type of drawings, one of which I want to discuss in this section is the hydraulic diagram. For the purpose to make a hydraulic circuit understandable, each element in the installation is represent by a specific symbol.

Therefore a diagram consists of a number of symbols. To ensure that everyone can read the symbols, international standard symbols are use.

The symbols not tell us about the actual dimension, technical design, how is make the device, they only represent a specific function.

The technique of reading the schematic is thinking in a functional manner. Furthermore the important thing is the function it perform not the actual construction or the basic operation of the component.

When a machine malfunction identified the function which is not working and will be obvious which component is causing trouble.

Hydraulic Circuit -Cooling

I’ll open this section with a simple and efficient diagram. Inspire from Hägglunds Deck Crane and is about cooling of hydraulic deck crane.

Unload accumulator in a hydraulic diagram

In any hydraulic system is very important to know to unload the accumulator. When system is under repair must remember if one or more accumulators are in the system and is necessary to unload them to avoid any incidents.

Pilot pressure reducing valve circuit

Here the pilot pressure reducing valve circuit is shown in diagram form.

Pressure reducing valve are the only pressure control valves that are normally open. The valves may be either direct operated or pilot operated.

Hydraulic press

Hydraulic press is operated by a low pressure pump and a high pressure pump. The pumps ensure rapid piston movement.

One important part of the LARS system is docking head.  Through docking passes the wire rope form umbilical winch which holds the TMS/ROV locked mechanically and hydraulically.

Fail Safe Hydraulic Brake

During normal operation hydraulic pressure keeps the discs within the brake case separated, allowing shaft rotation. This operation is called fail safe brake.

Hydraulic release multi disc brake

Winches and slew machinery are equip with a fail safe brake. In case of hose or pipe failure or pressure drops suddenly the brakes are automatically apply and by a pressure device the equipment is stop.
