Cargo Crane Jib

I attended on a vessel container in Colombo port, Sri Lanka and carried out crane jib repair

Nowadays I revise my old article and I remember my experiences on board commercial or offshore vessels as hydraulic troubleshooter.

One job to remember, added to my portfolio and I will share it below.

The problem reported was on crane no.3 jib felt down. Carry out visual inspection of the crane no 3- check the crane and jib condition-damages occurred-, recommended repair and if possible renew the hoisting wire.

Cargo crane jib felt over the maximum radius limit during a wrong and careless maneuvering of a deck crane. Fall on the top of an empty container which likely was there.

Limit switches

Limit switches of the hoisting and luffing winches are arrange in switch boxes and locate it in each winch on the side part.  Every limit switch function is set it separately. Furthermore a rotating cam controls the micro switch. When the gearbox of the winch rotates the cams are moving. One of the limits of the luffing winch is the maximum jib radius which can be by passed just for parking position of the crane.

Therefore inspect the crane outside and inside. Cargo crane jib is sitting on top of one container. The hook block wire rope twisted and is hanging a big box full with bottles of waters. The wire rope of the hoisting and luffing are out of sheaves. Also the protection guard of the sheaves from top of the crane jib is damaged.

Inside the crane, the luffing drum is empty and wire rope for luffing felt down on the deck.
