Selection of Hydrostatic Drive Transmission

Selection of Hydrostatic Drive Transmission

An electro-hydraulic crane system comprise a hydrostatic transmission drive and a hydraulic winches.

The crane should be able to slew or rotate, lifting and hoisting a safe working load whenever is need it.

For choosing the fluid of the system the temperature and viscosity range is deduce from V-T diagram.

About Hydrostatics

Hydrostatics deals with the potential energy available when a liquid is enclose and under pressure. This potential energy is call hydrostatic energy. Hydrostatic energy is apply in most of the hydraulic systems combine with kinetic energy. Furthermore, if the piston in the cylinder is move by a supply of flow under pressure, then not only is the pressure produce from effective potential energy, but a boost pressure is also effective which is create by the kinetic energy.  Kinetic energy is the energy of moving fluids.

The ambient temperature is chose as a limit for winter (-10 °C) and as a limit for summer (+ 40°C).

After these value have been set – the fluid, the pump flow calculation and the operating pressure – suitable pumps, valves and actuators (hydraulic motor and hydraulic cylinders) may be choose in accordance with technical data.

All hydraulic components selected for a hydrostatic drive transmission must be examined. With the help of component catalogue of different manufacturers in order to ensure the hydraulic system function as desired.

Another aspect that make the hydraulic system to operates correctly is to proper dimension the pressure line and return line filters. At lower temperature a filter that is too small may lead to considerable issues, as the fluid become thick at low temperatures.

Conventional hydrostatic drive

The conventional hydrostatic drive consists of a hydraulic pump with variable displacement and a hydraulic motor with fixed volume. By varying the pump displacement e.g. by means of swivel angle volumetric flow of the hydraulic pump will change and thus the output speed of the hydraulic motor determined.

Summarize
  • A crane system comprise a hydrostatic transmission drive;
  • Choosing the fluid of a hydraulic system with the help of V-T diagram ;
  • To make a hydraulic system to operates correctly is to proper dimension the pressure line and return line filters.
