Troubleshooting of Tsuji Crane

Nowadays I revise my old article and I remember my experiences on board commercial or offshore vessels as hydraulic troubleshooter.
One of my first jobs as service engineer.I was attended to a vessel for troubleshooting of a Tsuji deck cranes. It was in Chennai in southern India and one of the first service jobs I got. When I reached on board of the vessel I found out that one of the cranes jib had fallen just the day before I arrive on the vessel.

The jib was down imagine that approx 30 m of steel resting on the deck support. This was one of my first experiences but my enthusiast mood was overwhelming. I wasn’t aware of what is going on out there. But the days spent on board were enough to figure out how the things are done there. I became sober an instantaneously I realized that I was in big trouble out there. But, about this job I”ll talk later on.
I will talk about my second experience as troubleshooter in India for the same Tsuji crane. A year later I got back on the same ship in a place called Goa. I was together with a Japanese guy, the representative expert of the cranes.
Our job was to inspect the cranes and rectify problems found and assistance during cargo operations. In the first instance we went in anchor.Three days we spent in anchorage trying to figure out the problems.
In anchorage it was checked and over checked and the cranes were the same- poor synchronizing of grabbing and hoisting winches. It was installed an empty grab and tried. But because the sea conditions we couldn’t do much. The grab was swinging left and right and it was very dangerous to test any cranes.

We found poor synchronization of grabbing and hoisting winches while in ‘Hook’ mode. All 4 cranes had the same problems.
