Function of the motor regulator valve

Function of the motor regulator valve

Motor regulator valve work

The main characteristic of the motor regulator valve is to adjust the speed of the hydraulic motor in accordance with the load.

The regulator install on the motor of the winch keeps the power of winch constant.

The regulator is design to adjust the motor displacement according to the load. The speed of the winch is increase when the load is light and decrease when the load is heavy.

About displacement of hydraulic motor

In variable displacement pumps or motors the displacement volume e.g the pump flow or the suction flow of motors may be varied by adjusting the swivel angle. As the angle increase, the displacement volume and torque increase. The angle decreases these values decrease accordingly.  If the angle is zero the displacement volume is zero.

How it function

The oil is directed through the selector valve at port A, B and H of the regulator. When the load is light the spring B pushed the spool of the regulator to the right. The pressure at port H is supply to port Y for changing displacement of the motor.

As a result the displacement of the motor becomes minimum and the speed of the winch increased.

Diagram shows the status of motor regulator

If the load is increase the oil is directed at port A of the regulator and moves to the left raising the pressure.
Furthermore when port H is led to the port X the pressure is apply to the winch drum. The drum also moves toward the motor reach maximum displacement and keeps that position according to the load.

The speed of the winch is decrease in proportion to the distance of the drum movement.

Therefore in case the load is increase greatly the speed of the winch becomes minimum.
